Soul Motion Training Part 3: The Art of Teaching

Part 3: The Art of Teaching

Soul Motion Training Part 3 is the way to turn the passion for our practice into a profession and to open spaces yourself for people who want to practice Soul Motion.

The focus of this part of the training is on the methodology and didactics of teaching in the dance space.

The basic attitude of a Soul Motion teacher is less to instruct, but more to accompany and support what is already there and wants to unfold. This requires a good access to one's own intuition as well as an attentive observation of the dance space. From these two streams of information, the inner impulses and the outer perception, the Soul Motion teacher makes decisions for the next next step in a class, be it an exercise, a setting, verbal support or the selection of music. Often "less is more", and a waiting, benevolent observation of what is happening in the room is exactly what supports the participants in their own processes best.

Teaching Soul Motion is an art that does not follow rigid curricula and schemes. The life experience of the teacher, the subtlety of perception and the courage to take risks are the keys to a vibrant and nurturing Soul Motion experience. Growing as a person and teacher is a process of development that takes place at one's own personal pace. Experimenting and gaining experience in a safe and respectful environment is invaluable.

The 3rd part "The Art of Teaching" is exactly such an experience and learning space. In two in-person modules we practice how our personal life experiences can become a powerful source of inspiration for teaching. We train the perception what is happening in the dance space. Through honest and direct feedback within the group we learn what was triggered in the dancers by our teaching decisions, what was helpful and where it is worthwhile to look more closely.

Between the two modules (7 days each), each trainee leads Soul Motion units at his/her own place of residence. The experiences there are documented and discussed with the mentor and in the online meetings.

Some of the contents in part 3:

  • Lesson structures and lesson models (different lesson models are presented and the own way into the first units is worked out)
  • "The body as teacher": Leadership through body presence
  • Differentiation between perception and interpretation
  • The tools music, word, silence, body, space, presence and their interaction
  • Trying out of what has been learned by teaching in small groups with subsequent direct feedback

The Soul Motion Training concludes with a Graduation Ceremony and the awarding of the title "Soul Motion Teacher (SMI)".

Upon completion of the training, dancers join a vibrant worldwide Soul Motion community.

Monthly online meetings serve as a platform for further joint learning, collegial support, and maturing and deepening relationships with one another.
